WISD Parents,
This morning, a firearm was recovered from a student’s backpack at Winnsboro High School. The situation was handled immediately once staff became aware, and all students are safe. The student responsible was detained, and there is no ongoing threat to our campus. The safety of our students is always our top priority, and we appreciate the swift response of our staff and law enforcement.
Thank you for your support as we continue to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

Today, a special display case was installed at Winnsboro High School to honor the memory of Kale Robinson and celebrate the achievements of our state championship fishing team. Featured in the case is a replica of Kale’s final and personal best catch, a meaningful tribute to his passion and legacy.
As of now, the plan is for the Varsity Lady Raiders to play in Mount Vernon at 4pm on Friday, January 10 followed by the Varsity Red Raiders. The final determination will be made by noon on Friday, January 10 after evaluating road conditions and determining the safety of all participants involved in both districts including game officials.
Due to continued deteriorating road conditions and the prediction of overnight snow and ice accumulation with freezing temperatures, WISD will be closed Friday, January 10. Be safe and stay warm!!
At this time, we are continuing to monitor weather and possible overnight road conditions. We will make a determination regarding school tomorrow as soon as possible. Once a decision has been made, we will update all WISD parents, students and faculty.
Due to the potential for inclement weather, Winnsboro ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 9. All athletic events scheduled for that day are also canceled.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions and will make a decision regarding Friday, January 10, as soon as possible.
Please stay safe and warm!
Dear Parent or Guardian:
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever (greater than 100 degrees and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours without fever-reducing medications)
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea (2-3 times within 24 hours)
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to bring them to school.
Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
As a school, we have our custodians disinfect surfaces, door knobs, and banisters on a daily basis. We are also ensuring that there is soap and hand sanitizer in all dispensers and encouraging everyone to remind students about the importance of hand washing. Please also take the time to click on the links below for flu guides for parents from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.
Sincerely,
Erika Martin, RN, BSN
