WJHS and WHS Parents! On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. Our district will be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. WISD has been busy planning to make this once-in-a-lifetime event a unique learning experience for our students. On April 8, 2024, all students (with your permission indicated below) will be allowed to go outside and participate in activities and view the period of totality (“Solar Eclipse Viewing”). As always, student safety is our top concern. Looking directly at the sun is unsafe. The only safe way to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses”. Per NASA, homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun. Rotary of Winnsboro has provided all students, faculty, and staff with eclipse glasses to wear during this event. Although there is no way to fully guarantee student safety during such a rare event, we will take precautionary measures including pre-education to make students aware of the risks involved in directly looking at the sun. At no time should students or participants remove their eclipse glasses and look directly at the sun as it could cause permanent eye damage or other unknown effects. There is no way for the school to guarantee that your child will not remove their eclipse glasses, so please speak with your child about the importance of keeping their eclipse glasses on at all times during this event. Please complete the form below to allow your students to participate in this event! This form is for WJHS and WHS students only! A paper permission slip will be sent home with WES and WMIS students. https://forms.gle/wZz78dFwcap68HhM9

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden and tragic loss of one of our Winnsboro High School students. Our entire Winnsboro ISD family is devastated by this heartbreaking news. Tomorrow, we will have counselors and local area youth pastors available at the high school to provide support for our students and staff as we navigate through this difficult time together. Please know that we are here for you, and we will do everything we can to help you through this. As a community, we are mourning this loss, and we will come together not only as a school but as a community to support each other during this incredibly challenging time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our beloved student. #WinnsboroStrong
