WINNSBORO, Texas — The Winnsboro ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Chris Trotter as interim superintendent during a special board meeting on Monday. The appointment follows the resignation of interim superintendent Jeff Conovan.
A graduate of Winnsboro High School, Trotter returns to his hometown with 33 years of experience in public education. A fifth-generation educator, he has served as a classroom teacher, coach, campus administrator, district administrator, and superintendent throughout his career.
The Board believes Trotter's deep understanding of Winnsboro and his extensive leadership experience make him the right person to guide the district during this transition.
"The Board is thrilled to bring a Winnsboro graduate home to lead our district," said Board President Brandon Green. "Chris knows this community and what it values. We believe he's the right person to keep our traditions strong while we work on areas where we still have room to grow and to make sure our students and staff feel supported every step of the way."
Trotter most recently served as superintendent of Cleveland ISD. He has also held district leadership positions as chief operations officer in Coppell ISD and chief administrative officer in Tomball ISD. Throughout his career, he has emphasized investing in educators and staff while building strong relationships between school districts and the communities they serve. He said being visible, accessible, and supportive will be among his highest priorities in Winnsboro.
"It means a great deal to come back to the place that shaped who I am," Trotter said. "So many people here invested in me, and I've never forgotten that this is a community that believes every child deserves a real chance. I plan to start my days on a campus, and I want our teachers, staff, and families to know my door is always open. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and working alongside them to build on what makes Winnsboro strong."
Trotter began his career teaching mathematics and coaching in Birdville ISD. He later served in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Denison ISD, and Comal ISD as a campus administrator before moving into district-level leadership and eventually serving as superintendent.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a master's degree from the University of North Texas.
Trotter and his wife, Rachel, have two adult children who live in the Houston area.
As interim superintendent, Trotter said he looks forward to working alongside the Board of Trustees, district employees, students, families, and the community to continue providing an outstanding educational experience for every Winnsboro ISD student.
