Winnsboro Independent School District wishes to inform the community of a vacancy on the WISD Board of Trustees. School Board Secretary Duncan McAdoo submitted his written resignation on January 8, 2026.
Under the Texas Education Code and Texas Election Code, when a school board member resigns, the remaining trustees have the following options for filling the vacancy:
There is no required waiting period before the Board may act once the vacancy is official.
The Board of Trustees may:
Appoint a qualified individual to serve until the next regular school board election, or
Order a special election to allow voters to elect someone to fill the unexpired term.
If more than one year remains in the term, the vacancy must be filled no later than the 180th day after it occurs. If one year or less remains, the Board may choose to leave the seat vacant until the next regular election.
If the position is already scheduled to appear on the ballot at the upcoming regular school board election, candidates may file under the standard election timeline. The resignation does not alter filing deadlines or create a separate application process.
Winnsboro ISD remains committed to transparency and to keeping the community informed throughout this process. The Board will share additional details on next steps as decisions are made.
Community members with questions are encouraged to contact the Winnsboro ISD Administration Office.
